Papaya Tree – A Story of Reciprocity and Abundance!

This is a story of Papaya tree in my garden. This was about 3 years back that the place I stay witnessed a sudden surge in the cases of dengue. Consuming the juice extract of the papaya leaf is considered to be one important treatment for a quick recovery.

During this time our doorbell was ringing frequently only to receive our neighbors requesting for a papaya leaf. As our Papaya plant was nicely taken care by my mother – it was very flourishing. We were very happy to help our neighbors with papaya leaf.

Giving one leaf seemed very insignificant at the beginning but as the word spread about availability of papaya leaf – there was more demand. We kept honoring the demand and then we all started to feel a little hurt as the papaya tree started to wither.

A point came when it now had only one leaf left. And then the inevitable happened – our doorbell rang once again. One more neighbor standing in front of us requesting for that sole leaf.

We were committed to help till we have the resources and I got this last leaf and handed over to the needy. We were happy that we could help at the same time now looking at the naked papaya tree was painful. Without any leaves we were not hopeful about its survival.

What we witnessed within next few months is nothing short of a miracle – The papaya tree branched out, bore big, sweet and large number of fruits – more than enough for us to eat and share.

This for me is a great life lesson which taught me the significance of selfless service, principle of reciprocity and abundance in action!

Happy to share the original picture of the papaya tree below!
